Aim and Scope

International Journal of Kinanthropometry (IJK) is the official journal of the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK). IJK is a bilingual publication in English and Spanish. It is an open-access journal with double-blind peer review, published triannually (April, August and December). The journal welcomes manuscripts on original research within the framework of kinanthropometry. Within this framework, IJK publishes research articles in established areas of the science of kinanthropometry, including: application of morphology to movement and factors that influence movement; body composition; body measurements; body size and shape; maturation; motor abilities; physical capacities; physical activities that contribute to growth; human growth and development; and physical anthropometry.

About ISAK

The International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) is the offspring of the International Working Group in Kinanthropometry (IWGK) which was founded on 11th September 1978 in Brazil by the ICSSPE Research Committee at its ICSSPE meeting in Brasilia. Promotion and upgrading of kinanthropometric research was the main focus of the IWGK. Its efforts led to the organisation of three international scientific congresses on kinanthropometry. As a result, the IWGK was included in a specialized section of the 1984 Olympic Scientific Congress. As the number of colleagues with mutual interests increased, it was decided to move away from exclusiveness of a small committee to a more open new organisation which would serve more directly all who might be interested. The result was the formation of the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry in Glasgow, Scotland in 1986 when a meeting of 34 international delegates agreed to form the foundation of "an organisation of individuals whose scientific and professional endeavour is related to kinanthropometry" - the quantitative interface between human structure and function. ISAK's purpose was to create and maintain an international network of colleagues not bounded by community, geography, politics and disciplines to establish a dynamic area of scientific endeavour.

ISAK is managed by an Executive Committee comprising five directors and up to five additional members. The subcommittees of the Executive Committee are referred to as Working Groups or Committees, and the Executive Committee is advised by various Working Groups. The current ISAK Executive Committee is:
