  • Technical data: server logs (IP address, date and page visited) needed for security, and article usage statistics, which are calculated anonymously.

4. Purposes

  • Managing user accounts.
  • Managing submissions, double-blind peer review and the editorial process.
  • Publishing articles and their metadata, assigning DOIs, and disseminating and indexing them.
  • Long-term preservation of published content.
  • Sending notifications related to the editorial process and, if the user agrees, announcements of new issues.
  • Ensuring the security of the website and producing anonymous usage statistics.

5. Legal basis

  • Consent given by users when registering and, where applicable, when subscribing to notifications.
  • Relationship with authors or reviewers arising from the submission of an article or the acceptance of a review.
  • Legitimate interest of ISAK in the dissemination, preservation and integrity of the scholarly record and in the security of the website.
  • Legal obligations.

6. Publication of authors’ data

When an article is published, the authors’ names, affiliations and ORCID iDs, and the name and email address of the corresponding author, are made public. These data form part of the article metadata and are disseminated in open access through the OAI-PMH protocol, Crossref, databases and bibliographic indexes. Reviewers’ identities are not published.

7. Recipients

Data are not disclosed to third parties except in the following cases, which are necessary to provide the service:

  • Microsoft (Azure): website hosting.
  • Crossref: registration of DOIs and article metadata.
  • ORCID: when users authorise the connection of their ORCID iD.
  • PKP Preservation Network, LOCKSS and CLOCKSS: preservation of published articles.
  • Databases, indexes and harvesters that access published metadata.
  • Competent authorities where required by law.

8. International transfers

Some of these recipients may process data outside the European Economic Area (e.g. in the United States or Canada). In such cases, transfers are based on adequacy decisions of the European Commission (such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the decision on Canada) or on standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.

9. Retention

Account data are kept until the user requests deletion. Submission and review data are kept for as long as necessary for editorial management and to deal with possible claims or research integrity issues. Metadata of published articles are kept permanently as part of the scholarly record.

10. Your rights

You may exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction of processing and portability, and withdraw your consent, by writing to info@isak.global or to the postal address above. You can correct most of your data in your user profile. The erasure of data from a published article is limited by the need to preserve the scholarly record; such requests will be assessed in accordance with the journal’s policies. If you consider that your rights have not been respected, you may lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).

11. Data of research participants

Authors are responsible for ensuring that the studies they submit have the relevant ethics approval and the informed consent of the participants (or of their parents or legal guardians in the case of minors), and for anonymising the data. Articles must not include information that could identify participants, unless express written consent for publication has been obtained.

12. Security

ISAK applies appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data, including encrypted communications (HTTPS) and restricted access to submissions and reviews.

13. Minors

The website is intended for researchers and professionals. Data from children under 14 are not knowingly collected.

14. Cookies

The use of cookies is described in the Cookie policy.

15. Changes to this policy

ISAK may update this policy to reflect legal or service changes. The current version is always the one published on this page.
